Kiri Is Channel 4's Biggest Drama Launch In Over Two Years

Kiri is Channel 4's biggest drama launch in over two years.

The four-part series premiered last night (January 11) to mixed reviews, as fans praised the heart-breaking twist half way through but questioned plot holes and Sarah Lancashire's Bristol accent.

Despite some criticism, the series still pulled in a lot of viewers to become Channel 4's biggest drama launch in over two years.

Last night's premiere episode averaged 3.2 million viewers, with 15.5% of the 9pm audience share. The figures were confirmed by the Channel 4 Press account on Twitter this morning.

Kiri follows social worker Miriam (Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire), who is caught up in a police investigation when a young girl called Kiri goes missing on one of her supervised visits.

As the search for her intensifies, Miriam is publicly blamed by the police, the press, and even her colleagues for putting the girl at risk.

Review: >The most surprising thing about Kiri is how funny it is

The drama was written by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child playwright Jack Thorne, so fans were expecting good things, and it wasn't all bad news.

Despite Lancashire's dodgy accent and skepticism from the social worker community, fans were thrilled to see the Happy Valley actress back on screens and are already speculating about who the show's villain may be.

Kiri continues at 9pm on Wednesday (January 17) on Channel 4.
